    O'Bannon Enters The Triangle

Producers Dean Devlin and Bryan Singer have hired Farscape creator Rockne O'Bannon to write SCI FI Channel's upcoming miniseries The Triangle, the network announced. The eight-hour Triangle, which will be executive produced by Devlin (Independence Day) and Singer (X-Men), will take on the myth of the Bermuda Triangle. No airdate has been set.

O'Bannon previously wrote the miniseries Peter Benchley's Creature for ABC and Robin Cook's Invasion for NBC during the late 1990s. Steven Spielberg also commissioned O'Bannon to create the NBC SF series SeaQuest DSV.

O'Bannon and Farscape executive producer David Kemper also wrote the upcoming original four-hour SCI FI miniseries, Farscape: Peacekeeper War, which is slated to air later this year.

They ("Angel"-Fans) follow a long line of activist TV viewers who have organized to bombard networks with everything from Tabasco (in honor of "Roswell's" hot-sauce-craving aliens) to bras (sent by "Farscape" fans who wanted to prove that the show had devoted female followers.)

    (...)

When Sci-Fi's "Farscape" was canceled last year after four seasons, hopeful viewers sent the network flowers, singing telegrams, a Halloween jack-o'-lantern that resembled one of the characters, cupcakes and more. They also used the Internet to try to find financial backers for the program.

Their year-long effort paid off. A four-hour "Farscape" miniseries will air this fall.

"The only reason we're making the miniseries is because the fans found me a consortium of partners who made it possible to put together," said Brian Henson, the show's executive producer.

No. The big moments are gonna come, you can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are."

IGN erzählt etwas über "The Good & Bad of Cable Networks."

    Auf der miesen Seite u.a.:

    Sci-Fi Channel
If there's one channel out there that has lost sight of the desires of its audience, it's the Sci-Fi Channel. In an attempt to become a more "mainstream" network, Sci-Fi has resorted to mercilessly cutting the classic shows on its schedule to accommodate more promos for other shows. On screen graphics that obscure almost 1/4 of the screen and detract from the program you're trying to watch along with squeezing the end titles for shows so small that they're unreadable make Sci-Fi one of the most annoying channels to watch on cable. Some of the programming and promos, especially those during the lead up to the broadcast of the original Star Trek series, seem to point to an utter contempt for the network's core audience. The only thing that saves this network from being a total write-off is the recent trend towards mini-series projects based on the classics of science fiction like the recent Dune & Children of Dune and the upcoming Earthsea and Ringworld mini-series. Too bad the channel got rid of every show that presented current SF, fantasy and horror authors to the audience ages ago. Not beyond salvation but it has a long way to go. Getting rid of the overnight infomercials and replacing them with uncut real TV shows from the vaults would be a good start."

Bericht über Guy Gross im "Sydney Star Observer"

Composer Guy Gross ... ready to record music from a galaxy far, far away.

GUY GROSS CONDUCTS THE SYDNEY SYMPHONY IN THE SOUNDTRACK OF FARSCAPE THIS WEEK, THE HIGHLIGHT OF A CAREER OF FILM AND TV COMPOSING. HE SPEAKS WITH TIM BENZIE.

Guy Gross has composed orchestral music for such hits as Moulin Rouge and The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert but few people can hum his tunes.

He is not fazed. Writing orchestral music for film or television, he says, requires the composer to serve the film first and the inner artist second, so lack of recognition is part of the deal.

“On occasion it can go beyond its brief,” Gross says. “But the realities are that more often than not you compromise your music to do what’s best for the film, all the time. And that means sometimes music is certainly not going to stand up on its own.”

The scores that do often accompany bizarre vehicles: Gross’s faves include John Williams’ compositions for Home Alone and Hook, rather than Star Wars and Jaws, for instance.

Among his own discography Gross’s work on Farscape is the current favourite – a four-year-plus project that has provided plenty of meaty challenges, even if the pedigree is more pop culture than high-brow. The TV series Farscape is a Sydney-based science fiction drama featuring a cast of humans and muppets (created by the Jim Henson workshop) with a faux-Battlestar Galactica premise and a militant fanbase.

“Sci-fi’s a hoot,” Gross laughs. “And you’ve got to remember it’s soap opera in space … So one minute I’m huge and bombastic for the huge horrendous ships of the bad guys and the next minute I’m writing love themes.”

Gross’ affection for the show is shared by a posse of international fans, who cried for blood when the show was cancelled, and whose international campaign led to the production of an upcoming mini-series to wrap it all up.

With a bigger budget Gross is now able to record his score for the mini-series with a full orchestra, music previously played only on synthesisers and samplers.

It’s also made possible by the increasing respectability of film music, with the Sydney Symphony performing the score from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon last year and an upcoming concert of the score to The Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

“It’s so rare in Australia for us to work with orchestras because of budgets, so it’s really exciting,” Gross says. “And with the Sydney Symphony, what an honour.”

Richtig viel Knete übrig? Gefallen an Ratscape's Wanted Postern?

    Epic Farscape

The Farscape mini-series is going to be big says Henson.

Talking to SFX magazine, the director and executive producer of the Farscape mini-series, Brian Henson, says: "It's great, it's big, it's epic. I think it's going to be the biggest thing there has ever been."

"It was tough to figure out how to make a big event mini-series of Farscape when on every episode we were trying to make a movie a week," he adds, before revealing a little bit about the plot:

"It's basically the continuing love story of Crichton and Aeryn... set against a backdrop of a full, all-out, intergalactic was between the Scarrans and the Peacekeepers."

Henson also reveals that far from closing the Farscape book, the end of the mini-series creates a whole new set of possibilities for the franchise.

    P.S.: Die Ebay-Ratscape-Auktion hat "Kechara420" gewonnen. Für unglaubliche $455.00.

Kommentar: "I really do apologize, but I've decided that my new bedroom REALLY needs my own personal RatScape picture in it."

    (DallasScaper)
13 May 2004 - Scapers, I was recently surprised to learn that my new house will be finished three weeks early; closing is in about 2 weeks. As my schedule has been thrown into disarray, I will not have a chance to post any new vids to the site until after I've settled in. Given my work schedule, going back to school, and building a new house, I am weighing the possibility of closing Farscape Fantasy by the end of the summer. I'll keep everyone up to date as events unfold. Please note that the total "views" represent downloads since 27 April 2003. A BIG Texas "Thank You" to LithiumDoll for writing the code for this new library.
