Schon vor geraumer Zeit konnte man von einem geplanten Director's Cut von "Donnie Darko" hören.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Movi...lm.darko.reut/"Even though I am proud of the theatrical version of the film, I've always felt that the story was somewhat compromised in order to come in under two hours," said "Darko" writer-director Richard Kelly. "With this version I feel like I've finally been able to complete the film."
http://www.cinemaeye.com/more/273_0_10_0_C/The main difference in the director's cut will be the addition of a lot of music that the distributors didn't want to pay for the first time around. They felt the film was too much of a risk, so they cut a lot of the pop music.
"We are hoping to be able to put it all back. It will [contain] a significant number of new songs. That’s in terms of the music, but there are also a lot of the deleted scenes, some of which you can see on the DVD and others that aren’t on the DVD," Kelly told About.com. "I really feel [they] help expand a lot of the supporting characters, and help clarify a lot of the plot points in the film that might seem a little ambiguous or vague in its current incarnation. I don’t feel that they in any way take away from the intended ambiguity of the film when it comes to certain ideas. It’s tough to talk about all this because it’s pretty complicated stuff, but it’s part of the original design of what it’s intended to be."
