Ich hab den alten Thread über die Suche nicht gefunden. It's been in the works for so long that I remember a time when talk of this was existent and I had a waistline - believe me, that was a LONG time ago. In any case after years of being stuck in the worst layer of hell imaginable - 'development' - the film version of the world's most famous first-person shooter video game of the past decade is ready to let loose on the big screen.
Late last year, head ID man Todd Hollenshead revealed that Warner Brothers received a revised draft of the script whose story would be based on the third game which was in the works at the time (its scheduled for release July 15th). The deal the company had made set a time limit on the studio to look at it, and then if interested greenlight it.
The studio looks to have obviously passed because now today's Variety reports that Universal Pictures has optioned "Doom" for producers Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and John Wells, with Enda McCallion attached to make his directorial debut. The script, originated by Dave Callaham, is adapted from the plotline of the third game and set at a Mars space station, where an aerospace conglom is conducting secret experiments when something unleashes a demonic force that threatens to overtake the facility.
Rather than a sequel to the older games, "Doom 3" is a reinvention of it using modern technology and slows the pacing towards more the tone of a horror game than a first person shooter. Warners option on the property lasted for 15 months.
