Gellar Still Open To 'Angel' Appearance

It's almost completely unlikely that Sarah Michelle Gellar will return to "Angel" on The WB to reprise her role as vampire slayer Buffy Summers one last time. But the actress said not to blame her.

"A lot has been written about recently, 'Oh, is she going to do it? Is she not going to do it?'" Gellar told Sci-Fi Wire. "Well, to be truthful, I don't know if I'm even going to make it home before they finish. But no one's contacted me. I'll be totally honest."

Gellar, who is currently filming "The Grudge" in Tokyo, said that reports over why she didn't appear in an earlier episode of "Angel" as planned has been misconstrued by the press. She said her main reason for pulling out was the fact that her aunt died around the time she was supposed to be committing to the project.

"They had asked me to do 'Angel,' and it was a very bad time in my personal life," Gellar said. "There was a lot going on in my family. And I had to back out. And you sort of never hear the second side of the story. You never hear why I didn't do it. And then, all of a sudden, people get really angry, and nobody asks why it didn't work for you."

While Gellar said it's untrue that she wants to distance herself from the franchise, she did express concern on how her character's return in the final episode of "Angel" would affect the overall perception of the show.

"I go back and forth on the idea, especially because 'Angel' had such a hard time, in my opinion, always getting out from Buffy's shadow," Gellar said. "And it never got to stand on its own. And I would hate for it to go out being about Buffy.

"It'll all depend on if I'm home in time, and what the ideas are."
