In 1976, the first Star Wars novel hit bookstores -- an unassuming paperback with a painted cover of a young man holding a laser sword, with a pair of robots, a strange shaggy humanoid, and a looming villain with a dark skull-like mask in the background. The back cover text proclaimed that this story, Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, was soon to be "a spectacular motion picture."
Following the blockbuster cinematic debut of Star Wars in 1977, Del Rey published the first expanded universe novels from 1978's Splinter of the Mind's Eye to the Lando Calrissian trilogy of adventures in 1983.

Though the resurgence of Star Wars spin-off adventures occurred at Bantam Spectra in the 1990s, by the time the prequel trilogy launched in 1999, the publishing license had returned to Del Rey. Under their auspices, the Star Wars universe evolved in new directions. Readers were plunged into the dark and gritty era of The New Jedi Order, and followed the continuing adventures of Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars. Fans of depth and detail have explored the galaxy through Del Rey's fascinating series of Essential Guides. And those readers interested in the creative process behind the saga learned more through the various "Art Of" and "Making Of" books.

Del Rey Books has reached an agreement with Lucas Licensing that will extend their current book licensing agreement through December of 2008. The extension encompasses 18 new novels of fiction -- which includes nine hardcovers (to be published three-per-year) and nine original mass-market paperbacks (also, three-per-year). In the non-fiction department, the plan is for six oversized paperbacks, to be published two-per-year.

Nun, damit gehts weiter. Ich meine es ist besser als nichts neues, oder? Aber es ist nunmal Del Rey. 4 weitere lustige Jahre mit Sue Rostini und Co.

Vielleicht werden es ja vier Jahre à la Star by Star, Shatterpoint, Edge of Victory. Immerhin haben sie sich jetzt ausgetobt und kennen nach langer Zeit endlich wieder ihr Handwerk. Hoffe ich.
